TL;DR: the Setout Divide Backpack is an expandable carry on travel backpack launching in mid-August. Sign up here to be among the first to know when it launches, and read on for the full feature list.
Last week, we gave you the first sneak peek of the Setout Divide: a compact, expandable travel backpack launching mid-August. Today we’re excited to share all the details.
26L (expands to 34L)
20” x 13” x 6” (expands to 8”)
Fit: 17-19” torsos
What’s on the Outside
The body fabric of the Setout Divide is the same 900D heathered polyester you find on the Setout Backpack. It’s treated with a Durable Water Resistant (DWR) coating to keep your stuff safe in a drizzle.
One side of the bag has a padded grab handle, and the other side has a water bottle pocket that will fit larger and oddly-shaped bottles.
The Divide’s shoulder straps are made from an injection-molded foam similar to what you find in running shoes. The foam gradually breaks in to conform to your body, getting even more comfortable over time.
The bag is outfitted with YKK zippers and Duraflex buckes — the highest quality hardware on the market. The zippers to each main compartment are lockable for added security.
Similar to the Setout Backpack, the Divide’s shoulder straps stow away into a velcro section on the back panel.
The Divide has a new feature that our customers have been requesting: a pass-through sleeve for placing the backpack on top of a rolling suitcase. Since the Divide will fit under the seat of most airplanes (when it’s unexpanded), you can carry it as a personal item. Pair it with a rolling suitcase when you need to pack more stuff.
What’s on the Inside
The Setout Divide uses our signature three-pocket layout: a front pocket for oranization, a dedicated electronics section flush against your back, and a large main compartment for most of your stuff. Let’s walk through each compartment.
The front organization pocket should feel familiar if you have the Setout Backpack. It’s exactly the same design: room for a jacket, a sleeve for an e-reader, and slots for small items like pens and sunglasses. There are also a key clip and a small zippered pocket.
The electronics section is also the same as the Setout Backpack: flush against your back for maximum ergonomics, it fits a 15″ laptop and 9.7″ tablet, and is padded for protection.
The internel compartment is where things change the most. The Divide opens from the middle (often called a “clamshell” opening) and is divided into two interior compartments. One side is a mesh zippered compartment for socks, underwear, and other small items, and the other side has internal compression straps for larger stuff.
